Frieda Strachan
Fibre Artist, Maker, Designer

Frieda Strachan began weaving completely DIY at the start of 2017 - pulling an old painting off the wall, ripping off the canvas, and making myself a frame loom. From lo-fi self-taught weaving techniques, she has expanded her practice to include macrame, punch needle and tufting gun work.
Frieda links her fibre craft to her mental health, using it as a tool for wellbeing, interpreting feelings, working through and with difficulties and past traumas to create one-off and emotive pieces. She also creates lifestyle products including jewellery and home wares, and has recently started producing rugs.
As a participatory artist, she offer others skills and techniques that have helped her to be more mindful about my place in the world.
Frieda actively uses her practice and work to talk about important social issues, regularly engaging with others about difficult and important themes like sexual assault, in the hope of offering understanding, and the ability to heal through my creativity and participatory practice.
