Inspired by the life and work of north-east born, internationally celebrated fashion designer Bill Gibb, this exhibition re-presents Shane Strachan’s commission for Look Again Festival 2019, this time in the newly re-opened Aberdeen Art Gallery.
Performing his cycle of poems to camera, Strachan adopts a series of dramatic personae that trace Gibb's career, wearing costumes that reference his collections, produced in collaboration with Fashion and Textiles students at Gray’s School of Art. The exhibition includes 2 pieces from Aberdeen Art Gallery’s outstanding collection of Bill Gibb’s work.
Aberdeen Art Gallery holds the largest collection of Gibb’s work. Born in new Pitsligo in Aberdeenshire, he collaborated closely with tailors, knitters and textile designers and his fantastical garments were adored by celebrities such as Twiggy, Bianca Jagger and Elizabeth Taylor.
Shane Strachan is a writer and performer based in Aberdeen.
